Steve Dunn
Late Committee Member († 15. August 2019)

We mourn our dear friend and committee fellow Steve Dunn with broken heart over his sudden and unexpected death! Our committee has lost a very important voice and advocate of what we have been doing for 15 years. Steve was an original member and creative force of MPS.

This page is a celebration of Steve's life and work. We show selected photographs of his work that are also exhibited at the BRAF gallery.

Steven Dunn was an internationally recognized photographer most noted for his impressionistic images. He has been referred to as 'Monet with a Camera'. Using such techniques as Polaroid manipulation, multiple exposure, montage and rear projection, he creates images that have a true painterly quality. In addition to the United States, his images have been exhibited in Europe and Asia.

Steve had been a photographer for thirty years and has studied with internationally recognized photographers, Freeman Patterson, Andre´ Gallant, Joyce Tenneson, Jay Stock, and Tony Sweet.

He has just published a book of impressionistic photographs of Monhegan Island entitled Monhegan - Timeless Impressions of a Special Island. His images of Monhegan have been described as timeless, unique, unforgettable and as artistic meditations in the way they convey the island's special beauty.

Steve Dunn had been photographing Monhegan for over 20 years and has created this book as a way of giving back to the people of Monhegan who have shared their special island with him over these many years. He is donating all profits from the sale of the book to Monhegan Associates, a nonprofit land trust formed by Theodore Edison to preserve the 'wild lands' of Monhegan.
